Visarte represents the interests of professional visual artists in Switzerland, playing a decisive role in the development of cultural strategies and fighting for their implementation. Visarte Switzerland is the successor organization of the GSMBA (Society of Swiss Painters, Sculptors and Architects) active since 1866 and was founded in 2001.
Visarte Schweiz initiated visual artists remuneration guidelines in 2018. The guideline recommends the regulation of fair and economically reasonable remuneration for artists’ performances in connection with an exhibition. The support information includes a project calculator that enables an artist to calculate their income, expenses and available working time for a project depending on the available fee. The calculator takes into account the production costs related to the project, the artist fee, the provisions for old-age, risk provisioning and also the ongoing basic costs that accrue for an individual in self-employment.
This guideline is based on the recommendations of the Professional Association of Visual Artists Germany, 2014, and on the publication “Guidelines for Exhibition Compensation for Visual Artists in Saxony”, 2012.
