In the UK over the last two years a-n and it’s artist advisory group, AIR, have consulted with artists, major public funders and visual arts organisations to create a set of suggested structures to secure payment for artists who exhibit in publicly funded galleries. The Paying Artists Exhibition Payment Guide has now been published to support fair payment for artists – outlining a negotiating payment structure and guidance for implementation. We welcome this initiative and will work with this group to encourage and monitor implementation throughout the UK. We hope that this will be the first step in developing an even more robust payment structure in the future that can be aligned with artist contracts and creative business support systems.
